The America that greeted the first Europeans was, thus, far from an empty wilderness. It is now thought that as many people lived in the Western Hemisphere as in Western Europe at that time -- about 40 million. Estimates of the number of Native Americans living in what is now the United States at the onset of European colonization range from two to 18 million, with most historians tending toward the lower figure. What is certain is the devastating effect that European disease had on the indigenous population practically from the time of initial contact. Smallpox, in particular, ravaged whole communities and is thought to have been a much more direct cause of the precipitous decline in the Indian population in the 1600 s than the numerous wars and skirmishes with European settlers. Indian customs and culture at the time were extraordinarily diverse, as could be expected, given the expanse of the land and the many different environments to which they had adapted. Some generalizations, however, are possible. Most tribes, particularly in the wooded eastern region and the Midwest, combined aspects of hunting, gathering, and the cultivation of maize and other products for their food supplies. In many cases, the women were responsible for farming and the distribution of food, while the men hunted and participated in war. By all accounts, Native-American society in North America was closely tied to the land. Identification with nature and the elements was integral to religious beliefs. Their life was essentially clan-oriented and communal, with children allowed more freedom and tolerance than was the European custom of the day. Although some North American tribes developed a type of hieroglyphics to preserve certain texts, Native-American culture was primarily oral, with a high value placed on the recounting of tales and dreams. Clearly, there was a good deal of trade among various groups and strong evidence exists that neighboring tribes maintained extensive and formal relations -- both friendly and hostile.

Yuwie! The First Social Network That Pays!
So what the heck is Yuwie anyway? I've been hearing a lot about this new social network that pays. So, I decided to investigate for myself and see it's all about. Yuwie is a social network very similar to MySpace and Facebook. The big difference is, Yuwie pays it's members a portion of their ad revenues. You sign up for free. You don't have to pay a single cent. Ever. Then, you start earning money for your activities on the site. Doesn't it seem fair to get a piece of the pie? I mean after all, the owners are making money off of your profile. According to Yuwies FAQ you get paid for " page views". A page view is when you view any of your control panel pages, including but not limited to: settings, messages, friends, referrals, favorites, etc. You also get a page view when other people view your profile page, your blog pages, all your friends, all your comments, your picture pages, or your shared layouts. So basically, you get paid for doing all the stuff you do on MySpace. But, it gets even better. Yuwie also pays you for page views of the people you invited ( referrals) up to 10 levels deep! For example, if you have 3 referrals and they get 3 referrals all the way out to 10 levels and they all average 1000 page views a month, you could potentially earn over $10 ,000 a month! Here is an example of the 3 referral concept in a chart from Yuwie's FAQ: Sounds simple right? That's because it is simple! Your next question is probably, "Is this some kind of scam?". The Profit Review-Just Another Make Money Online Scam
Before you start my review of the Profit Lance System, please turn off the Television and any other distractions. The information that I am granting here will allow you to make up your own mind if Profit Lance is a scam or not. Continue ... A little over 5 weeks ago I was looking online for reviews on grossing money from home. I came across yet another making money opportunity by the name of the Profit Lance System. I read through the website and it sounded good, but I did NOT purchase it right away. You ask yourself why ? Well, in the past I bought 12 Making Money products and none of them helped me at all. In my opinion they were all scams, because all you received was the author telling you how much money they achieved and how you can also make money online ... they were putting a picture in my head of what my goal was, but there was no clear way on how to get there. I used up over $350 in 5 months on 12 systems and all I received were ebooks. Overall I made approximately $19 using the methods in the ebooks. They were all just scams probably written by the same person, just advertising them under different names. The mistake I made was not to read any reviews or user comments before I bought them. I wasn't going to make the same mistake this time. I looked at other reviews of the ProfitLance system, because $67 is a lot of money to spend on one shot ( update: last time I checked, the price went up to $77). Reading the reviews I noticed that most of the reviewers were happy with the Profit Lance system and that it is not a scam (at least according to them). One review mentioned that you can make $18 ,000 a month with the Profit Lance System and most people said that they make between $3 ,000 to $8 ,000 every month, since it was scam free. To me all of this sounded unbelievable. How is it possible to make $18 ,000 or even $3 ,000 a month without any items ? I tried it in the past, but without any success. These reviews were to good to be true. I still made the decision to get the Profit Lance System on my credit card, because what I read was very enticing to me (I already spent over $350 , another $67 would not kill me ... I put in some extra hours at my workplace the previous week) After purchasing the Profit Lance System, I immediately got an email with my Username and Password. Profit Lance is not an ebook like most other scams out there. You actually get access to their website and you can even contact them via email for help and suggestions. This is very important because there is a lot of information provided in the Profit Lance System; it took me 3 hours to read through everything. The information provided is not unlike what I have seen before, but the difference is that you are shown the proper ways to use the techniques to make money online. After reading through everything one more time (I did this at night, after work) I started to follow the steps that were provided to me in the Profit Lance System. Trust me when I tell you that this system is not like the other making money scams that I bought in the past. I did not have to buy anything else, and I was able to get it on right away without spending any more money than the original $67 for the actual Profit Lance System. My own experience showed me that this is not a scam, but making that kind of money is not possible. I think the max you can reach with the Profit Lance system is around $4 ,000 to $5 ,000 a month by working 1 to 2 hours a day. To Believe or Not To Believe? ( Predicting the Past) It all boils down to this one question. Fortune-telling, tarot card reading, astrology, horoscopes, numerology. They all ask us to invest in them something from inside ourselves: total faith and belief, because the slightest doubt will cancel everything out. And in this world of ours where almost everything has a monetary equivalent, belief is a free luxury. It is easy to believe. It's not always to see is to believe. Sometimes, somethings must be believed to be seen. It's easy to believe; you just open your mind. The hard part is standing by our beliefs and making them our own, and breathing life on them, till we are one and the same. To believe doesn't mean resignation to fate. It doesn't mean just because we are Scorpios, or Arians, or Saggitarians, we must comply with whatever characteristics our star signs are supposed to carry. To believe is to explore what else is beyond. Stretch our limits, be more than just what has been allotted to us. Humans are creatures who like to revel in their chosen beliefs. It's what separates us from animals: choice. We choose our beliefs, We hide our doubts. We obsess about the future. Why do we want to know the future? Humans are a curious species not contented with living in the present. We are time-travelers, gripped by our past, fascinated by the future. We want to make things right and prevent those that would go wrong. It is all about control. To glimpse the future is power. Then, we wouldn't have to be helpless victims of bad weather, bloody wars, accidents and other mishaps. We may not successfully be able to radically alter the future, but at least we can manage it in our favor. We need to be assuaged and appeased that our lives are purposeful, and have meaning. And the present moment is not enough to supply us all we need--after all, it is such a fleeting moment, readily gone, classified and shelved right away as the past the next day. The past and the future is what we rely on, what we try to link, to be able to come to terms with ourselves. Pyschics or Skeptics? ( Remembering the Future) Life is deliberately full of mysteries, not for us to rack our brain trying to solve every little equation, but for us to just sit back and relax and enjoy the little surprises that await us. Even if that surprise is on the other side of the computer screen, blinking hard, hopeful. Indeed, technology is the unfailing medium in spreading oneness in all of us. Instead of being hard- headed skeptics, let's open our minds and hearts to the possibilities of the future.

Many people have wanted to know how they can get into acting. Sometimes a model realizes that he or she cannot make a full-time living with a modeling career. Other models are aware of their limitations such as height and bone structure. They know that beyond print work, it can be real tough to get into modeling. So they choose to step into the broader acting field. Acting requires more specialized training than modeling does. Most actors and actresses get into acting by getting involved in theatre, dramas, plays and stage productions. Many actors and actresses also get into acting through an acting coach. An acting coach trains you much like an athletic coach does, except the muscle that is trained is your “acting muscle�. You are trained in learning improvisation, cold reading, and acting methods. These are generally the basics for a beginning actor. Once you have discovered how to get into acting, you will also need to know about the two types of productions exist for actors and actresses. There is union work and non- union work. Union work is controlled by the Screen Actor’s Guild and the AFTRA. If you are interested in doing union work you do need to be signed on with a Screen Actor’s Guild franchise agent. A quick search on the internet on “SAG Agencies� will give you information to all the agencies that have access to the current job openings in your area. For acting work that is non-union related, you can use other methods of searching to find work in your area, such as hiring an agent. If you have an agent, he or she will submit potential acting jobs to you. Your agent will need copies of your resume and your headshot picture. This is the best way to go in order to get into motion pictures, television or commercial work. The reality is that you will need a break – to be asked to come to an audition. An audition is conducted at the office of the Casting Director. You will be reading “sides�. A “side� is a small portion of the script. You may be able to acquire these small scripts in advance so that you can practice your acting skills. Then, during your audition, someone opposite of you will actually act the role out while you read the “side�. Be sure to ask the Casting Director what your motivation in the particular session will be so that you can put more of natural talent into it. It will help you to read the lines appropriately. There will be lots of other actors waiting to read for the very same role that you will be reading. Show business is competitive. Once you are done reading, you will go home and wait for your agent to call you with the good or bad news. Another way to break into acting is to become an “extra�. Many people make a partial living being an “extra� in movies or film. “Extras� are paid anywhere from being a volunteer to $200 a day on most movie sets. You can locate jobs as an extra actor by finding union films. Below are some tips to get you started from the mere beginner to full time acting; 1. Join your local speech and drama clubs. If you’re in school, join the theatre there. Usually, every major city has a theatre. 2. Brush up on acting skills – join classes, seminars, and events. Gain as much skill and experience as possible. 3. Read books – your local library will have books on acting. 4. Start small – don’t try to go for the big parts if you are a new.
